The Russian Revolution

Why did the Russians have a revolution? The Russian Revolution took place in 1917, during the final phase of World War I. It removed Russia from the war and brought about the transformation of the Russian Empire into the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics , replacing Russia’s traditional monarchy with the world’s first Communist state. The revolution happened in stages through two separate coups, one in February and one in October. The new government, led by Vladimir Lenin, would solidify its power only after three years of civil war, which ended in 1920. Russia is the world's largest nation. This was a communist nation and Karl Marx was the founder of this action or so called a type of religion. Some events that kind of caused this revolution was that Nicholas II the czar who led Russia in the years leading up to the revolution had personally witnessed revolutionary terrorists assassinate his grandfather and, subsequently, his own father respond to the assassination through brutal oppression of the Russian people. When Nicholas II himself became czar in 1894, he used similarly severe measures to subdue resistance movements, which were becoming bolder and more widespread every year. This made russia weaker so a person called Lenin came and took over the power and caused the revolution in February. Lenin was the one to say Peace, Land and Bread which then had Bolshevik to help him and this started people to become more communists. The revolution made Russia turn to the industrialized ways so they started becoming more industrial.

causes of ww1

World war 1 was the very first world war that had many changes to the world. World war 1 was the results of leaders aggression towards other countries which was supported by the rising nationalism of the european nations. At the settlement of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the principle of nationalism was ignored in favor of preserving the peace. Germany and Italy were left as divided states, but strong nationalist movements and revolutions led to the unification of Italy in 1861 and that of Germany in 1871.Nationalism posed a problem for Austria-Hungary and the Balkans, areas comprised of many conflicting national groups. Another factor was imperialism. Great Britain, Germany and France needed foreign markets after the increase in manufacturing caused by the Industrial Revolution. These countries competed for economic expansion in Africa. Militarism denoted a rise in military expenditure, an increase in military and naval forces, more influence of the military men upon the policies of the civilian government, and a preference for force as a solution to problems. Militarism was one of the main causes of the First World War. Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914, the Hapsburgs declared war on Serbia. This event helped to propel Europe into World War I. Franz Ferdinand, was assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914, the Hapsburgs declared war on Serbia. This event helped to propel Europe into World War I. Franz Ferdinand was assassination in 1914. Hapsburg declared war on serbia. The Habsburg Empire was finally dismantled in 1918 with the defeat of Austria and Hungary at the end of World War I and the founding of the Republic of Austria. The Habsburg descendents, however, were able to retain their traditional titles although as a monarchy, they would never rule again.

opium wars

Opium is a drug that grows from a poppy flower that is very addicted and it relaxes you which makes people want more and more. There was a big war with British and China for opium in the 19th century. Opium is a preparation made from the juice of poppy seedpods, and used to produce heroin. In the 15th century, when opium was first introduced to China, it was used as medicine to treat diseases such as dysentery, cholera, as well as diarrhea. The Opium War was the most humiliating defeat China ever suffered. By the 1830's, the English had become the major drug-trafficking criminal organization in the world; very few drug cartels of the twentieth century can even touch the England of the early nineteenth century in size of criminality. Growing opium in India, the East India Company shipped tons of opium into Canton which it traded for Chinese manufactured goods and for tea. Because of the trades of opium in china, china was becoming addicted to opium and was turning china into a worst economy. War broke out when Chinese junks attempted to turn back English merchant vessels in November of 1839. The Chinese, with old-style weapons and artillery, were no match for the British gunships, which ranged up and down the coast shooting at forts and fighting on land. The Chinese were equally unprepared for the technological superiority of the British land armies, and suffered continual defeats. Finally, in 1842, the Chinese were forced to agree to an ignomious peace under the Treaty of Nanking.

Mountain of the moon

The movie we watched in class was the mountain of the moon because we are studying imperialism. This movie was talking about the way the two famous europeans Richard Burton and John Speke discovered lake victoria which is the source of the nile river. It talked how these two people struggled for months and months to just find the source of the Nile river. Most people died in this adventure and some survived. They both had to take two trips to Africa because they weren't prepared the first time because they didn't have the materials and resources to eat or didn't even have any weapons to protect themselves because they came across other territories and tribes. There were diseases such as malaria. John Speke had became death in his second trip because he forgot to cover himself in his insect tent at night and it got in his ear. John Speke was the one to discover the source of the nile river and named it lake victoria after the queen of the united kingdom Queen Victoria. The europeans had guns and updated resources and the africans had spears so they used that against them and took over Africa.

Meiji Restoration of Japan

In the year of 1853, Commandore Matthew Perry showed up in Japan with 4 warships under his command in Tokyo with a request from the United States government to open its ports to trading and to establish diplomatic relations between the two nations. The Japanese were aware of western imperialist aggression in other parts of Asia and the presence of warships suggested that this request could be backed up with force. This made the Japanese sign the treaty of kanagawa with the United States. The Japanese were astounished of Matthew Perry's vessels. The Japanese never saw this type of creation and technology before. They called those Black ships because of the black smoke the ships threw out. The abolition of feudalism made possible tremendous social and political changes. Millions of people were suddenly free to choose their occupation and move about without restrictions. By providing a new environment of political and financial security, the government made possible investment in new industries and technologies. This made Japan's government to start building railways and shipping lines and much more. Japan started getting morwe industrialized with factories and started trading with other countries. Japan is an archipelago because an archipelago is a cluster of islands frequently formed by volcanic activity.

Karl Marx and Communism

Communism is abolition of private property, meaning that resources and production are owned in common by the people. Communism was made by Karl Marx because he wanted everyone to be payed the same amount. Karl Marx didn't like the ideas of capitalism because he thought that capitalism contained the seeds to its own destruction. He said that communism was the inevitable end to the process of evolution begun with feudalism and passing through capitalism and socialism. A way for Karl Marx ideas to be passed on around the world to start this type of revolution was that he started writing books about his ideas, started communist groups and went to every socialist meeting he heard about to argue his point for communism. Marx called the trade owners or known as the "Boss" as "BOURGEOISIE" a french word meaning the social class and he called the "Workers" as "PROLETARIAT" a french word meaning the wage labourers.

Karl Marx and the Indusrial Revolution!!!!

Karl marx was a german and his ideas was known as communism. He was born a Jew, but his father converted the family to Christianity in order to get a job. He did not believe in god and thought workers were controlled by religion. The ideas of Karl Marx were not used in the communist countries. Marx believed that workers would control government, but communist governments were strict and dictatorial. Workers were often forced to work on huge collective farms and factory workers often had to fulfill quotas. In most Communist nations, the press was censored. They were not allowed to print news stories that criticized the government. People who spoke out against the Soviet government were treated harshly. Karl marx was known as the founder of Communism.
In the other hand Karl marx did not like the industrial revolution because he thought that the industrial revolution was to make the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. This influenced him to make the religion known as "Communism". He wanted workers to start a revolution against their owners since there were more workers then owners. He wanted everyone to get payed the same and with no social classes that will tell people what class you are in and whatnot.
